The 2020 Airstream Caravel is a new travel trailer model added to Airstream’s lineup. Though the name is not new, the original Caravels were unveiled in 1956, everything about the 2020 model is.

The Caravel is stylish with a very nice interior, clean lines and top of the line fixtures and appliances.

When it comes to towing this camper you shouldn’t have a problem. They are lightweight and easy to tow with an SUV. You also get the benefit of Airstream’s iconic design with its low center of gravity, weight distribution, and aerodynamic aluminum exterior.

Airstream Carvel

Floor Plans

This travel trailer is available in 4 different floor plans ranging from 16 feet in length to 22 feet. All models can sleep up to 4.

Though it may seem the smaller length makes it cramp it really doesn’t feel that way. These floor layouts are very well thought out and designed to maximize space and comfort while still providing all the necessities.

We really like the Caravel 20FB, since it has a separate tub and shower which is one of our most important criteria for a camper.

Features

Features are where the Airstream Caravel really stands out. Let’s go over some of the more prominent features of this camper.

Kitchen: The galley features a convection oven which you don’t see too often on a travel trailer, even on some of the best travel trailer brands. The stainless steel gas cooktop comes with cast-iron burners and the stainless steel sink comes with a Moen faucet. Above the cooktop, you’ll find a Baraldi cooking vent with light.

Panoramic Windows: The Caravel has two panoramic windows. One in the front and one in the rear. These custom windows are riveted to the Airstream trailer and are designed to give you a wider opening radius increasing airflow through the trailer.

Decor Options: Interior decor option is limited to just two however we think you’ll find that to be enough considering how well they are put together. You’ll find Pewter with Gunmetal Ultraleather which is a light grey bedding with dark woods and gunmetal ultraleather seating.

The other decor option is Tungsten with Cavier Ultraleater this matches dark neutrals with warm wood and dark grey bedding.

Climate Control: The Caravel is equipped with the patented Quietstream ducted climate control system, which is controlled by an electronic thermostat. It is a relatively quiet system that is super-easy to use. There is is a furnace on the Airstream Caravel but you don’t always have to use to warm your Caravel. It also comes with a heat pump to extract ambient heat from the air to warm the trailer.

Bathroom Space: The 22FB model comes with a dry bath instead of a wet bath. To learn more about dry and wet bath you can read this other article I wrote. We prefer a dry bath (separate toilet and shower). The bath on the 22FB spans the whole back of the camper and includes a wood door and window. The standalone shower includes a built-in seat and the vanity give you plenty of storage space.

Ultraleather Seating: The Caravel’s seating is durable and longlasting. The Ultrleather resists temperature change and will never crack from cold weather. It is pet-friendly, scratch and stain-resistant and is very easy to clean.

Like they say on the TV infomercial, “That’s Not All” here is a list of more feature you’ll find on the Airstream Caravel.

  • Front and Window Awnings
  • Rear Bumper Storage
  • JL Stereo with Bluetooth
  • Solar pre-wire
  • Roller shades and Blackout Curtains
  • Stainless Steel Rock Guards
  • Stacked Double Tail Lights
  • All-Electric Refrigerator – It cools fast but can drain your battery if you are not hooked up to power
  • Power Tongue Jack
  • Dimmable LED Lighting
  • Memory Foam Mattress
  • USB and 110V charging outlets.

What We Like:

We like the overall design and interior look of the Caravel. It’s lightweight and easily towable by most vehicles. It comes very well equipped with just the right amount of features. The 22FB floor plan has the standalone shower which we really like.

Summary

The 2020 Airstream Caravel is the perfect travel trailer for those who camp on weekends and enjoy short excursions and prefer the big name, iconic camper. For you are looking for a retirement travel trailer the Caravel is not it.

It is expensive compared to other campers. It starts at $66,000. There are other alternatives designed for the same market as the Caravel. For example, the Winnebago Minnie Drop which I wrote about is one we like.

Overall the Caravel is an ideal trailer for those looking to easily get out on weekends.
