One of my favorite small Class A RVs is the Thor Axis. In this Thor Axis review, I go over this affordable gas-powered Class A, along with specifications, videos, and what I like and don’t like about the Thor Axis. Let’s get started.

I also like the Thor Four Winds a Class C motorhome.

Thor Axis Introduction

The Thor Axis is a gas-powered Class A RV manufactured by Thor Motorcoach. What makes the Thor Axis one of my favorites is its maneuverability. At only 25′ 9″ it is an easy t drive Class A RV.

The Thor Motor Coach Axis RUV (recreational utility vehicle)is built on a Ford E-350 chassis, with a 7.3L V8 engine. It has a towing capability of 8,000 lbs.

It is a smaller Class A but has features usually found in larger motorhomes. It is constructed with a welded tubular steel floor, a one-piece fiberglass front cap, and Vacu-bond laminated floor and roof. Insulation on the Thor Axis is block foam.

The Axis is available in three-floor plans (24.1, 24.3 24.4) and comes in two exterior colors.

  • 24.1 – Twin beds and full sofa
  • 24.3 – Murphy bed and camp-side dinette
  • 24.4 – Rear bathroom with Murphy bed and dinette

All floor plans have slides.

Thor Axis Main Features

Let’s take a look at some of the main features of the Thor Axis. We’ll start with the exterior and construction.

As I mentioned previously the Axis is built on a Ford E-Series chassis capable of towing 8,000 lbs. The trailer hitch is outfitted with a 7-pin round connector.

The floor is welded tubular steel, the roof is welded aluminum and sidewall cage construction. It features a premium 1-piece roof and a one-piece fiberglass front cap.

Two of the hottest features are the electric stabilizing system and the power patio awning with LED lighting. Storage compartments are lighted rotocast storage compartments with flush mount doors.

The windows are black frameless windows giving the Thor Axis a modern clean look.

Axis Cockpit

The Axis driver and passenger area are loaded with features. There is a 10-inch Touchscreen Dash Radio with Bluetooth, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay. It also has Sirius / XM radio.

The remote exterior mirrors are heated mirrors with integrated side-view cameras, tilt steering, cruise control, and map light.

For comfort in the cockpit, you have a swivel leatherette captain chair, a power drivers chair, a removable pedestal table, and a dash workstation with 110V and 12V outlets.

Rounding out the features of the cockpit is a privacy power shade on the windshield and a power drop-down overhead bunk with a Cotton Cloud mattress.

Thor Axis Interior Features

Inside the Thor Axis, you are going to find a thoroughly enjoyable and luxurious layout. The interior height is 82 inches which makes the living space seem large and open.

The Euro-style cabinet doors are outfitted with soft close hidden hinges and nickel-finish hardware. The dinette sits in front of the coach which I think is more comfortable than the typical dinettes with u-shaped seats.

There is LED lighting and privacy roller shades on all the windows. In the living space, you’ll find a leatherette tri-fold sofa (model specific, Murphy bed, Fream Dinette, etc).

Passenger seat belts can be found in select seating areas of the living space.

In the galley, you get a double-door refrigerator, two-burner gas cooktop, convection microwave oven, and pressed laminate countertop with sink cover.

In the bedroom is one of my favorite features, two twin sofa beds that offer a king conversion. There is USB power charging ports, a 12-volt outlet for a CPAP machine, headboard bedspread.

The bathroom has a shower with a skylight, curved curtain rods, a stainless steel bathroom sink, and a 12-volt attic fan.

For entertainment, there is 32-inch TV in the living room and bedroom, and an antenna booster for digital off-air reception.

Electrical and Plumbing

The Thor Axis is equipped with an Onan RV QG gas generator, an automatic transfer switch, and an automatic generator start system. It is solar power ready with the included 100-watt solar panel and controller.

A 6-gallon water heater, outside shower, and holding tanks with heating pads are some additional features on the Axis.

Thor Axis Pros and Cons

There is quite a bit to like about the Axis. Here are some of the things I like:

  • Easy to maneuver due to its short length
  • Excellent views from the cockpit
  • Power bunk over the cab is a great feature
  • Floor plan choices are very good.

These are a few of the things I don’t like about the Axis:

  • Not a lot of space to walk around when the slide is in.
  • The bathroom is rather small.
  • The shower has a curtain, it might be better with a glass door.

Thor Axis Reviews

I researched reviews for the Thor Axis on the RVInsider website and overall the Axis gets a rating of 3.8 stars. Many gave the floor plans and liveability over 4.0 stars but overall quality and factory warranty received 3.5 stars or less.

Is the Thor Axis suitable for full-timers? In my opinion, I think it is. Obviously, it doesn’t have the space of a 5th wheel or full Class A motorhome, but it does have enough space for two people to live in full-time.
