Our Oregon Coast Big Rig Camping Discovery

Published on February 21st, 2024 by Alicia and Pleshette

Our Oregon Coast big rig camping adventure started far south of Astoria, near Los Angeles. After heading east toward the Sierra Nevada mountains, we hopped onto US-395. This high desert scenic route took us up into the most isolated, rugged landscapes of eastern California and Oregon. After meandering through the center of Oregon and finally through Washington, it was time to wind down. We embarked on a southerly route down the Washington coast where we took a well-deserved break near Highway 101 at the mouth of the Columbia River, in Astoria, Oregon.

Along the way we discovered that coastal Oregon camping is filled with plenty of public state parks and private campgrounds, but finding true big rig RV parks can be tough. Based on what the RV LIFE Campgrounds community had to say about Lewis & Clark Golf & RV Park, we decided to give it a try. Here’s why we were not disappointed, and you won’t be either.

Where is Lewis & Clark Golf & RV Park?

The park calls itself “The ultimate in coastal convenience,” and it’s true. Lewis & Clark Golf & Park is just a few minutes from the Oregon coast, the mouth of the Columbia River (fishing, anyone?), and a short drive to must-see historical sites like Lewis & Clark National Historic Park, Fort Stevens, Fort Clatsop and beautiful downtown Astoria. You get the best of all worlds with so many attractions, and an on-site RV park with golfing. Big rig camping in Oregon doesn’t get any better!

This RV Park is a bit off the beaten path yet so close to everything. Astoria is just across a bridge and over the hill. Costco is 4 miles down the road.

While this park is highly rated and absolutely big rig friendly, there are things about it to consider if you’re planning to head out this way! There are a few things to know about navigating this part of Oregon in your Big Rig.

As part-time Content Creators, we review campgrounds like Lewis & Clark Golf & RV Park from our perspective. We know there is a huge difference between a Class A and a triple-axle fifth wheel over 35-feet. When campgrounds say they are big rig friendly, is that for all RVs or just Class As? Just how “big rig friendly” is their campground with respect to different classes of oversize RVs, maneuvering in the campground, backing in or pulling through?

Our mission is to review and let you know which campgrounds are indeed big rig friendly and have the amenities needed for today’s remote workers, digital nomads, and most RVers, great people just out for a nice getaway.

Hope you enjoyed our take on this park. We’ll see you at the next stop!
